Harare — The Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme continues to gain momentum, with Budiriro North Constituency becoming the latest beneficiary of the nationwide water access programme spearheaded under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Book NowLaunched on 14 April 2026, the initiative is aimed at improving access to clean, safe, and reliable water for communities, particularly in high-density suburbs where water challenges remain a pressing concern.
The programme was officiated by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan Province, Honourable Senator Charles Tawengwa, who underscored the centrality of unity, peace, and development in national transformation efforts.
“This programme speaks directly to the Government’s vision of leaving no place and no one behind,” said Honourable Tawengwa, highlighting the broader developmental thrust underpinning the intervention.
The event drew senior party and government officials, including Politburo member Cde Tendai Chirau, ZANU PF Harare Province Chairman Cde Goodwills Masimirembwa, Vice Chairman Cde Fundukwa, Political Commissar Cde Voyage Dambuza, and Chief Whip Cde Moyo, alongside District Coordinating Committee members.
Also present were ZANU PF Central Committee members Kudakwashe Tagwirei and Paul Tungwarara, who both reaffirmed support for the initiative and its alignment with national development goals.
Cde Masimirembwa expressed appreciation for the programme, noting its role in advancing unity and development in line with Vision 2030. He further emphasized the importance of community support in ensuring the success of such interventions.
Cde Tagwirei highlighted the scale of the initiative, noting that the programme is expected to deliver up to 480 boreholes across Harare, significantly improving water access for residents. He also reiterated his support for Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, linking governance reforms to long-term development objectives.
Cde Tungwarara echoed similar sentiments, describing the borehole scheme as a tangible demonstration of development and improved service delivery at community level. He added that the programme reflects a practical approach to addressing everyday challenges faced by citizens.
The event was also attended by various affiliate groups, including Fathers 4 ED, Hairdressers 4 ED, Men Believed, Young Women 4 ED, Pastors 4 ED, and Boys Dzamudhara, reflecting broad-based mobilisation in support of the initiative.
As urban populations continue to grow, access to reliable water infrastructure remains a critical development priority. The expansion of the Presidential Borehole Scheme into areas such as Budiriro North signals a targeted effort to address service delivery gaps while strengthening community resilience.
The initiative stands as part of a broader national strategy to enhance basic service provision, improve public health outcomes, and drive inclusive development in line with Zimbabwe’s long-term economic vision.
