Government Engages Bitumen World for Road Construction Ahead of SADC Summit

The government has engaged Bitumen World, a renowned construction company, to undertake the design and construction of roads leading to the New Parliament.

As part of this ambitious project, a crucial phase involving the upgrading and reconstruction of 13 kilometers of Old Mazowe Road is set to commence. In light of this development, authorities have announced the closure of Old Mazowe Road to public traffic starting from March 24, 2024. To minimize disruptions and ensure smooth traffic flow during this period, the motoring public and local residents are urged to adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. Use Alternative Routes Where Possible: Motorists are encouraged to explore alternative routes to their destinations.
  2. Traffic to Mazowe: Utilize Good Hope Road and follow the designated detour route as indicated on the attached map.
  3. Traffic to New Marlborough: Opt for alternative routes such as Coppins Road, Elisabeth Windsor Road, Adylinn Road, or any other available options.
  4. Reduce Speed and Adhere to Traffic Control Signage: Exercise caution when approaching construction zones and follow the instructions provided by traffic controllers.
  5. Drive with Care and Patience: Show patience and attentiveness while navigating through construction areas, and obey signals from traffic controllers.
  6. Allow Extra Travel Time: Expect delays and allocate additional travel time to accommodate potential disruptions.
  7. Give Right of Way to Construction Vehicles: Show respect for construction vehicles and prioritize their passage, while also ensuring the safety of construction teams and passengers.

The success of this infrastructure project hinges on the cooperation and understanding of the public. Authorities express gratitude for the anticipated support and cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure the safety and efficiency of the construction works.

As Zimbabwe prepares to host the prestigious SADC Summit, these infrastructure improvements underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing the country’s transportation networks and facilitating regional engagements.
