STAR female boxer Kudakwashe “Take Money” Chiwandire has been given yet another opportunity to lighten herself up after securing a shot at the World Boxing Council (WBC) title in December.
The 27-year-old pugilist has challenged for the WBC international belt against Indian holder Urvashi Singh.
The fight is scheduled for December 15 in Victoria, Australia.
Chiwandire had been pushed out of the limelight over the past year after she failed to win the WBC gold title against Mexican Yamileth Mercado in Chihuahua.
But she can spring back to life if she manages to capture the WBC international.
The fight was announced by her stable, Deltaforce Academy in Harare yesterday.
“As Deltaforce Boxing & MMA, we are glad to announce that we have inked a deal that will see Kudakwashe Chiwandire, back firmly on the path to WBC world title contention,” said Clyde Musonda, the Deltaforce Academy boss who is also Chiwandire’s trainer.
“This fight will be the headline bout on a bill promoted by MJA Entertainment in conjunction with DJMC Events.
“This presents yet another opportunity for the Zimbabwean flag to fly high on the global stage.
“We take this opportunity to invite sponsors and well-wishers to come and support this championship campaign.
“Chief amongst our concerns is that the Australian Promoters have outlined that they will pay for the travelling and accommodation expenses for only the boxer and a single trainer.
“This development leaves us at a great disadvantage as the WBC allows a team of three to be in the fighter’s corner and thus we will be severely under staffed in the corner for this high profile fight.
“It is with this in mind that we appeal for assistance in underwriting the traveling and accommodation cost for two member of our team so that we do not fall into the same predicament we did in Mexico.
“We also take this opportunity to recognise our perennial sponsors and partners such as Gypsite Electric and Civil Contractors, RM Plumbing World, KGK Logistics, Zororo Phumulani powered by Doves, the Zimbabwe Boxing & Wrestling Control Board and Invictus Gym for their continued support”.
Chiwandire, who vacated the WBC interim belt after challenging Mercado was able to secure this WBC international title by virtue of her three and a half star rating on boxrec.
She will move to four stars and be automatically qualified to challenge for the WBC gold if she wins in Australia.
The boxer said she will grab this opportunity with both hands.
“I would want to first thank my manager Clyde Musonda, sponsors and coaches for their continued support, they kept pushing and believing in me especially during my difficult moments,” she said.
“I’m very happy with this opportunity and I want to promise my supporters that I’m not going to waste this opportunity as I’m going to do all I can to get a positive outcome.
“This is a different trip from the one we had in Mexico because this time around we were told in time and we have already started preparing also in time.
“So we are expecting everything to go as planned especially on our traveling, we need to ensure that we go there in time and settle down and I’m sure if we continue with this preparation we will go there and win.”
Meanwhile, Farai Makombe also from Deltaforce is scheduled to face Mussa Mkwanda of Malawi on November 5 in Lilongwe, Malawi.
Makombe who has an impressive 3-0 record of which two are knockouts said he was ready for this fight.
