HARARE – His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, has appointed a new Board of Directors for the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) in terms of Section 4(2) of the Broadcasting Services Act [Chapter 12:06].
In a statement by Nick Mangwana, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, the Government said the seven appointees will serve for a period of four years, effective immediately. The appointments are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen regulation and promote diversity in the country’s broadcasting sector.
The new BAZ Board members are: Tendai Jennifer Mandizvidza, Godfrey Mutobaya, Magna Mudyiwa, Caroline Makoni, Cloud Nyamundanda, Vengai Rushwaya (Chief Serima) and Prime Kufakunesu.
The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe is the statutory regulator responsible for licensing, monitoring and regulating broadcasting services in Zimbabwe. The new Board takes office at a time when the sector is undergoing significant transformation, with a focus on digital migration, content regulation, and the licensing of community and campus radio stations in line with Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2.
The Board is expected to provide strategic oversight to ensure that broadcasting promotes national values, plurality of views, and compliance with the law.
