The construction of the International Multi-Purpose Cricket Stadium in Victoria Falls is progressing rapidly, with significant advancements recorded at the Lot 1 Jafuta Estate site. The state-of-the-art venue is set to host matches during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2027, marking a major milestone for Zimbabwe’s sports tourism industry.
Secretary for Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Dr Takaruza Munyanyiwa, recently visited the site and commended the progress, highlighting the stadium’s strategic importance in enhancing the country’s destination competitiveness. “The stadium will stimulate increased tourist arrivals, boost hotel occupancy, catalyse investment in supporting infrastructure, and elevate the global visibility of Victoria Falls,” Dr Munyanyiwa said.
The multi-purpose cricket stadium is designed to contribute to the growth of Zimbabwe’s tourism economy, aligning with the country’s Vision 2030. The project is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, creating jobs and opportunities for local businesses.
The stadium’s construction is a significant step towards positioning Victoria Falls as a premier sports tourism destination, showcasing the country’s ability to host high-value international events. The project is set to put Zimbabwe on the global map, promoting the country’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.
The construction of the stadium supports Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) goals, which include promoting the country’s brand, strengthening international relations, attracting foreign investment, and boosting tourism and trade development.
