Kauya Katuruturu as ZPC Kariba is affectionately known by their legion of fans continued with their losing streak. Harare giants, Dynamos walloped them 3-0 in a game played at the National Sports stadium yesterday.

Currently, ZPC sits on position 16 on the 18-team log after amassing 11 points. They have won 3, lost 7, drawn 2 matches. Their run was below expectation and the assignment against Dynamos (Dembare) proved to be difficult.

Their opponents’ technical team, who are also under immense pressure to deliver or face the chop, at least survived another day in office after the win. Dynamos coach Herbert Maruwa was given a tough ultimatum last week where a loss in the next two games would result in his sacking.

The win for Dembare is a confidence booster for Maruwa and his charges.

Dembare last collected their last full set of three points way back in April 2023 when they beat their City rivals Caps United.

From that game they had never collected maximum points; it was a chain of draws. So, this game was a must win for the Glamour Boys. They were on the score sheet as early as 22mins when Elton Chikona scored from the close range.

Dynamos’s man of the moment, Donald Mudadi who is enjoying his days at Glamour Boys colours doubled for Dembare some few minutes before half time with a long-range shot.

The game was a well-balanced affair especially the first half. ZPC strikers let their team down as they failed to convert chances that came their way. Both teams were creating good scoring chances but they were not utilising the chances with Leeroy Murape and Moses Demera the main culprits.

Dembare had relegated goalkeeper Taimon Mvula to the bench and had replaced him with Tafiremutsa. The second choice did not disappoint.

Tafiremutsa denied Demera by making a spectacular save by punching his effort for a corner. ZPC defence were caught sleeping when Donald Mudadi profiteered from that and punished them by sending a volley just outside the box and buried the visitors. That goal was his second goal of the day.

Maruwa was left a happy man had he not won this match he was going to be fired because he had failed to the task of collecting all the six points. But the coach is saying he was not aware of the ultimatum. He said he only heard about it from social media.

Only what he knows is he is still in charge of the team and he is still on his word that all is going to pass and goals are coming.

He said he made a few changes into the team because he thought he needed to freshen some things and one of them managed to put himself on the score sheet (Chikona).

His opposite number Newsome Mutema was left a disappointed man after failing again to collect maximum points.

His men failed to Bury the chances that came their way.

*The team created but we could not utilise the chances and ended up being punished”, said the ZPC Kariba coach.
