HARDROCK TURN TITLE RACE ON ITS HEAD WITH STUNNING 3-2 COMEBACK WIN OVER MWOS

By Aldridge Dzvene

HARDROCK FC strengthened their grip on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title race after producing a dramatic late comeback to defeat MWOS FC 3-2 at Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe on Sunday, overturning a two-goal deficit to move eight points clear at the summit.

The victory, secured through Munashe Bamara’s decisive late strike, could prove pivotal in Hardrock’s pursuit of a maiden league championship, with the Kwekwe-based side demonstrating the resilience required to negotiate the pressure of a title race entering its decisive stage.

For much of the afternoon, MWOS appeared poised to deliver a major setback to the league leaders. Arthur Banda put the visitors ahead in the ninth minute before Nigel Makumbe doubled their advantage in the second half, leaving Hardrock facing the prospect of surrendering valuable points at a critical moment in the campaign.

However, the contest changed dramatically as Hardrock mounted a determined response. Gerald Takwara reduced the deficit before Thubelihle Mavuso restored parity, setting the stage for Bamara to complete the turnaround with a late winner that sent the home side into celebration.

The comeback was significant not simply because of the three points secured, but because of the psychological advantage it handed Hardrock in a title race where every remaining fixture carries enormous consequences.

Head coach Kelvin Kaindu credited his players’ belief and fighting spirit, revealing that his message at half-time was centred on confidence and the importance of refusing to surrender despite the two-goal deficit.

His assessment reflected a team increasingly comfortable operating under pressure, with Hardrock finding ways to secure results even when matches appear to be slipping beyond their control.

The victory extended Hardrock’s winning run to nine league matches, underlining the consistency that has propelled them to the top of the standings. Their ability to recover from difficult situations has also become a defining feature of their campaign, with the latest result reinforcing their credentials as serious contenders for the championship.

For MWOS, the defeat represented a costly collapse after a performance that had placed them in a commanding position. Coach Lloyd Mutasa acknowledged that his team had failed to manage the game effectively after establishing the lead, allowing Hardrock to regain momentum and punish their defensive lapses.

The contrasting fortunes of the two sides illustrated the fine margins that increasingly define the business end of a league campaign. MWOS had the opportunity to disrupt the title leaders’ progress, but Hardrock’s response ensured that the contest became another statement of their determination to finish the season at the summit.

Hardrock moved to 69 points from 32 matches, opening an eight-point gap over defending champions Scottland FC, who had 61 points with games in hand. The title race, however, remained mathematically open, with Scottland still capable of applying pressure depending on the outcome of their remaining fixtures.

Hardrock’s immediate task is to maintain their momentum against Simba Bhora away from home and FC Platinum at home. Scottland, meanwhile, face a demanding run-in that includes CAPS United, Chicken Inn, Herentals and Triangle United.

The permutations leave Hardrock in a strong position, although the championship is not yet secured. Their advantage gives them greater control over their destiny, but maintaining concentration and collecting the remaining points will be essential if they are to convert their remarkable campaign into silverware.

For a club seeking its first Premier Soccer League crown, the victory over MWOS may ultimately be remembered as one of the defining moments of the season. Coming from two goals down to win at such a decisive stage demonstrated not only attacking quality, but also the mental strength required to sustain a championship challenge.

With the finish line approaching, Hardrock have delivered a powerful message to their rivals. Their title ambitions are no longer built solely on the points accumulated over the season, but also on a growing capacity to survive setbacks, recover under pressure and find decisive moments when the stakes are highest.
