Zim drivers licence valid in UK, Min of Transport

The ministry issued a statement this Wednesday.

Addressing the issue of whether the licences are still recognised by the British Government, the ministry had this to say.

“Yes, they do, but there are unconfirmed reports that some Zimbabweans have been using fake metal driver’s licences and sadly end up being involved or causing road traffic accidents”.

The prevalence of accidents has resulted in the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) Kingdom (UK) demanding certificate of competence upon request for converting Zimbabwean Licence to British Licence.

In Zimbabwe the certificates of competency are valid for thirty days.

Class two drivers are not tested for parallel parking and three point turn. As such the DVLA prefers class 4 licence holders.

The ministry has entered into engagements with DVLA so that they do not request for a certificate of competency in the interest of the public.

The ministry urged the nation to follow laid down procedures of acquiring a drivers licence and shun corrupt tendencies to avoid being inconvenienced.

The Central Vehicle Registry continues to engage the DVLA on a daily basis so that they find common ground.

The ministry advised the nation that where there is need to acquire a class four drivers licence where one had a class two, they are open to assist and award the licence upon following the necessary procedures for the relevant class of motor vehicle
