ZRP Bans Carrying of Weapons in Harare for Two Months

Harare, 28 March 2025 – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced a temporary ban on carrying certain weapons in Harare Central District to prevent violence and maintain order. The restriction, issued by Chief Superintendent M. Masvivi, will be in effect from 27 March to 31 May 2025 under Section 13 of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act (Chapter 11:23).

The affected areas include Mbare, Braeside, Marimba, Borrowdale, Churchill Road, Chikurubi Maximum Prison, and Robert Mugabe Airport. The ban applies to weapons such as machetes, axes, swords, knives, daggers, catapults, knobkerries, and any other traditional weapons that could be used to cause harm or public disorder.

Police have warned that anyone caught violating this order may face a fine of up to Level 5, imprisonment of up to six months, or both. Officers will be monitoring the situation closely to ensure compliance and maintain public safety.
