SADC Chairperson, President Mnangagwa Visits Secretariat, receive SADC HQ

THE Southern African Development Community (SADC) Chairperson and Zimbabwe’s President, His Excellency President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa together with Botswana’s President Duma Gideon Boko will this Friday 13 December pay the SADC Secretariat a working visit to give guidance and appreciate the work of the Secretariat.

The SADC Headquarters is domiciled in Gaborone, Republic of Botswana.

President Mnangagwa who assumed the Chairmanship of the regional bloc at the 44th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government held on 17 August in Harare is expected to give guidance and assess the implementation of the SADC programmes, regional integration agenda among other issues.

The 44th Summit which was held under the theme, “Promoting Innovation to Unlock Opportunities for Sustainable Economic Growth and Development towards an Industrialised SADC” came up with resolutions to be implemented by the Secretariat. The SADC Chairperson will follow up progress on implementation of the resolutions.

The Chairperson and host President will be handed over the SADC Headquarters building by Bongwe Investments Proprietary Limited on behalf of the SADC Heads of State and Government. The SADC Secretariat Headquarters Building has been governed through a Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) Agreement involving SADC, Bongwe Investments (Proprietary) Limited (Private Party) and the Government of the Republic of Botswana as a guarantor to the PPP arrangement.

A ground-breaking ceremony for the commencement of the construction of the SADC Standby Force Regional Logistics Depot (RLD) at Rasesa village, in the Kgatleng District, 40km from Gaborone will also be performed as SADC moves to ready itself for peace initiatives and humanitarian missions in the region.

The SADC Chairperson oversees the highest level of the governance structure of SADC, and among others, has the overall mandate of providing policy direction, and controlling the functions of SADC.

With President Mnangagwa at the helm of the regional bloc’s affairs are in good hands.
