Zimbabwe Hosts SARCOF-29: Minister Nyoni Calls for Strengthened Climate Forecasting, Regional Cooperation, and Community Involvement

The 29th Southern African Regional Climate Outlook Forum (SARCOF-29) was officially opened in Harare by Honourable Dr. Sithembiso G. G. Nyoni, Minister of Environment, Climate and Wildlife. Addressing experts from across the SADC region, Minister Nyoni emphasized the urgency of enhancing the capacity for precise and comprehensive seasonal climate forecasting. She highlighted the devastating effects of climate variability, including erratic rainfall patterns and prolonged droughts, and called for increased investment in National Meteorological and Hydrological Services.

Minister Nyoni stressed the importance of regional cooperation and knowledge-sharing through platforms like SARCOF and the Climate Experts Meeting (CEM). She also urged member states to ensure that their meteorological services are well-resourced, in line with the “Early Warning for All” initiative. Furthermore, she called for greater involvement of youth, women, and children in climate action, recognizing them as key pillars of community resilience.
