HIGHRANGE EDGE JUMBO GIANTS IN TIGHT CONTEST

Highrange 1–0 Jumbo Giants

Highrange secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Jumbo Giants after a closely contested encounter in which the hosts created the better chances but were made to work for their breakthrough.

The match began at a lively pace, with both sides showing attacking intent and looking to impose themselves early. However, the tempo gradually dropped after the opening 20 minutes, with both goalkeepers enjoying relatively quiet spells as the teams struggled to turn their early urgency into clear-cut opportunities.

Highrange came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 36th minute when Jumbo Giants goalkeeper Keith Box produced an impressive double save. A well-constructed move through the centre opened up an opportunity for the hosts’ striker, who opted for power rather than a composed finish, allowing Box to make the initial stop.

The rebound fell kindly for the same striker, who struck again, only for Box to produce another intervention. The ball then fell into the path of a second Highrange attacker, but the referee halted the move for offside.

Jumbo Giants’ defensive organisation appeared vulnerable at times, yet Highrange struggled to capitalise on the openings presented to them. As the first half drew to a close, fatigue began to show among the players, while the visitors’ limited options on the bench, with just two outfield substitutes and reserve goalkeeper Nomore Jones, added to their challenge.

Highrange’s goalkeeper, meanwhile, had a largely uneventful first half, with the hosts keeping Jumbo Giants from testing him over the opening 45 minutes.

The hosts resumed with greater purpose after the break and nearly took the lead in the 52nd minute. Highrange striker Owusu rose to meet a delivery with a powerful header, but his effort crashed against the crossbar, leaving Jumbo Giants with a warning of the pressure building against them.

Highrange eventually found the breakthrough in the 61st minute through a set-piece. A well-delivered cross created the opportunity, and the hosts’ striker made no mistake with his finish, beating Box to put his side ahead.

The goal proved decisive as Highrange held on to secure all three points, rewarding their persistence and ability to make one of their opportunities count.
