ZANU PF Harare Metropolitan Chairman calls for authentic cell verification and 600,000-member target by 27 June.
ZANU PF Harare Metropolitan Chairman Advocate Godwills Masimirembwa has issued a strong call to action for party structures across the province, urging intensified grassroots mobilisation and membership verification ahead of National Cell Day on 27 June.
Addressing delegates at the First Harare Provincial Inter-District Conference, Cde Masimirembwa emphasised that the party’s organisational strength is anchored in its cell and village units. He directed officials responsible for structural audits to ensure that all records are authentic, verifiable, and properly documented, stressing that the task must be executed with integrity and diligence.
“The strength of our party lies in its cells. We must ensure all cell and village structures are authentic, verifiable and accurately documented. Those tasked with this must carry it out with honesty, diligence and commitment,” he told delegates.
Cde Masimirembwa began his remarks by acknowledging Zimbabwe’s recent election as a Non-Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council. He described the development as a reflection of international confidence in President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership. He encouraged cadres to adopt the guidance outlined in the Guide for Cell Chairpersons, using it as a framework to build credible and resilient grassroots structures.
Highlighting Harare’s political significance, Cde Masimirembwa noted that the province accounts for one million registered voters across 30 constituencies, the highest of any province. He said past electoral outcomes have not always matched the party’s support base, and called for sharper strategy and sustained effort to convert that support into results.
He set a clear benchmark for the province: to register more than 600,000 members before National Cell Day and to secure at least 16 constituencies in the next general election. Achieving these targets, he said, requires every district to focus on cell-level growth and accurate membership records.
“Through effective communication we can reach those outside our structures and bring them into the revolutionary movement.” he said.
Cde Masimirembwa also urged members to use social media constructively to educate, mobilise, and recruit. He noted that effective digital communication can extend the party’s reach to citizens outside existing structures and bring new members into the fold.
Invoking the principle that the country is built by its own people, the Chairman tasked political commissars, district chairpersons, and cell leaders to accelerate recruitment drives and ensure all members are registered within their respective cells. He underscored that electoral success is built from the bottom up, with strong cells forming the foundation of district and provincial victories.
With National Cell Day approaching, the directive from Harare’s provincial leadership is clear: prioritise authentic cell organisation, expand membership, and translate grassroots strength into sustained political dominance.
