
Harare, Zimbabwe – A sombre farewell ceremony was held at the ZANU-PF Harare Provincial Headquarters today to bid a final goodbye to the late National Hero, Cde Cosmas Chiringa, who passed away on March 9, 2026, at the age of 67 due to heart failure.

The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, ZANU-PF dignitaries, and war veterans, who gathered to pay their last respects to the fallen hero.

Book NowHarare Province Chairman, Cde Godwillis Masimirembwa, expressed the province’s sadness over Cde Chiringa’s passing, highlighting his tireless efforts to empower Harare residents and ZANU-PF members.
“Cde Chiringa was a true embodiment of President Mnangagwa’s vision 2030 mantra,” Cde Masimirembwa said. “He worked tirelessly to ensure that the people of Harare and ZANU-PF at large were empowered.”
Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province, Cde Tavengwa, praised Cde Chiringa’s contributions to the liberation war, recalling his involvement from the age of 16 and his declaration as a national hero by President Mnangagwa.
“We gather today to bid farewell to a gallant son of the soil, aka Steward Dzika, his liberation war name,” Cde Tavengwa said. “President Mnangagwa declared national hero status to Cde Chiringa, and we are proud of his achievements.”
Permanent Secretary for Harare Metropolitan Province, Engineer Muguti, highlighted Cde Chiringa’s alignment with government initiatives, including Amendment Bill Number 3, and emphasized the importance of party supremacy.
The farewell service was also attended by Cde Mada, Principal Director of Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology, Cde Chirau, Cde Hungwe, Cde Voyage Dambuza, and Cde Andy Mhlanga, among other dignitaries.
Cde Chiringa’s burial is scheduled to take place on March 23, 2026, at the National Heroes Acre in Harare, where he will be laid to rest alongside other national heroes.
