Speaking on the sidelines of the preparations, ZimSport Development for ED National Chairman, Cde Gabriel Togarepi, said the organising team is working tirelessly to ensure the historic event is successfully delivered.

He said sport remains a key tool for talent identification, social cohesion, and economic development, while also playing a critical role in steering young people away from drug and substance abuse.

“This is in line with our national Vision 2030 of an Upper-Middle Income Economy under the leadership of His Excellency President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa,” said Cde Togarepi.

He confirmed that the Africa Day Sports Tournament is scheduled for the 30th of this month at Canterbury Primary School in Ushewokunze, where young people will compete and showcase their sporting talent across various disciplines.

Cde Togarepi added that preparations are progressing well, with strong stakeholder participation and growing interest from the community.

In support of the initiative, ZimSport4ED has partnered with several grassroots and development-focused stakeholders, including the Marvelous Nakamba Foundation and Discovery Ambulance, strengthening the event’s capacity and outreach.

The ZANU PF National Political Commissar, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, is expected to officiate as Guest of Honour, alongside other senior party and government officials.

Cde Togarepi concluded by emphasizing that the tournament is not only a sporting event, but also a platform for youth development, national unity, and community engagement.
