
In a welcome development that tests the character, cohesion and combination of the Warriors team’s players, the Zimbabwe Football Association has lined up two friendly matches during the upcoming FIFA window as part of preparations for the TotalEnergies 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament to be staged in Morocco in December.
The mother body’s president, Nqobile Magwizi, confirmed the positive development following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in Harare.
Magwizi reiterated ZIFA’s desire to play formidable opposition to test the team’s character and competitiveness ahead of AFCON. ZIFA has lined up friendlies against African football powerhouse Algeria and Qatar. The two teams will provide the Warriors’ technical team with a chance to select players to do duty in Morocco as well as assess the perfect combinations.
The friendlies are a platform for coaches to test and assess the players ahead of the crucial AFCON tournament which they are expecting to pass the first round for the first time.
ZIFA is seized with finding a replacement of the sacked German coach Michael Nees who was shown the exit door after the team failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
ZIFA reiterated its commitment to providing the team with the best preparation guided by a vision of performance, pride and professionalism.
The AFCON will take place from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026 in Morocco. Zimbabwe is in group B alongside Egypt, Angola and South Africa.
