Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, both accused of fraud, have been found guilty by High Court Judge Justice Pisirayi Kwenda.
The pair was arrested for fraudulent activities related to the Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme, where they falsely claimed to have secured 32,500 goats across the country.
However, an investigation by the Ministry of Agriculture revealed that they had only acquired 4,208 goats, valued at USD 331,445, which resulted in the cancellation of their contract. They fraudulently obtained USD 7,380,751, none of which has been recovered.
This conviction underscores the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, emphasizing that no one is above the law, including Chimombe, a former member of the ZANU-PF Central Committee.
The verdict reinforces the government’s commitment to tackling corruption decisively.
