Zimbabwe Shines as Forbes Top Global Travel Gem

Analytical Feature Article

Zimbabwe’s tourism sector continues to rise above global expectations, earning the world’s attention after the United States-based Forbes Magazine ranked the country as the best place to visit in 2025.

The recognition marks a historic moment for Destination Zimbabwe, which has steadily reclaimed its place among the world’s leading travel destinations through resilience, innovation, and unmatched natural beauty.

Adding to this international acclaim, South Africa’s Bona Magazine recently listed the Victoria Falls Bridge among Africa’s coolest and most iconic bridges, reaffirming Zimbabwe’s strong presence on the continental tourism map.

Industry players say the new accolades demonstrate how Zimbabwe’s tourism sector has become a symbol of endurance and excellence, thriving despite challenges imposed by illegal Western sanctions.

“Zimbabwe is a beautiful country, and even those outside are acknowledging it. This demonstrates the resilience of our sector despite sanctions. If sanctions were lifted, the industry would perform even better,” said tourism executive Mrs Tatenda Gunda.

“Zimbabwe’s tourism sector is a sanctions buster. We are proud to be back on the world map. Visitors recognise the country as one of the best destinations globally,” added Dr Clement Mukwasi, a tourism executive.

“Zimbabwe is irresistibly beautiful. International magazines are acknowledging that truth, which reflects the resilience of Destination Zimbabwe,” noted Dr Mercy Mushangwe.

From the Great Zimbabwe Monuments to the Eastern Highlands, Hwange and Gonarezhou National Parks, and the world-famous Victoria Falls, the country’s breathtaking attractions continue to draw travellers in search of authentic adventure, heritage, and serenity.

In 2024 alone, Zimbabwe welcomed over two million visitors, signalling a strong recovery for a sector that remains a key pillar of national development under the Second Republic.

Analysts say such global recognition is not accidental. It stems from deliberate government efforts to enhance infrastructure, promote peace, and market Zimbabwe as a safe, sustainable, and investment-ready destination.

Beyond its beauty, Zimbabwe offers stability, rich culture, and an unrivalled sense of hospitality, qualities that have now been endorsed by one of the world’s most respected business and lifestyle publications.

As the nation marches toward Vision 2030, the tourism sector’s growing global appeal stands as a shining example of how Zimbabwe continues to defy odds, inspire confidence, and attract the world’s admiration.
