Zimbabwe Assures Safety of Citizens Abroad Amid Middle East Tensions

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has assured the nation that all Zimbabwean citizens who have made contact with the country’s diplomatic missions in the Middle East are accounted for and confirmed safe. As geopolitical tensions rise in the region, the Government has moved swiftly to reinforce its constitutional obligation to protect citizens beyond national borders.

In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Spokesperson and Director of Public Diplomacy, Communications and Advocacy, Mrs. Philisiwe Chidawanyika, the Government reaffirmed its commitment to offering consular services and support mechanisms for Zimbabweans living or travelling abroad, especially during times of crisis.

“In line with Section 35, subsection 3 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, which affirms the rights and benefits entitled to all citizens, including the protection granted by the State wherever they may be, we are actively monitoring the situation and remain in close contact with our Embassies in the affected countries,” read the statement.

The Ministry encouraged all Zimbabwean nationals residing outside the country to register their presence with the nearest Embassy or Consulate of Zimbabwe. This registration, the Ministry stressed, is not just administrative, but critical for effective communication, swift support, and timely response in situations where citizens may require evacuation, repatriation, or consular intervention.

This proactive approach underscores the Government’s evolving diplomacy framework, which blends national interest with citizen protection abroad. In a world marked by increasing volatility, the safety and dignity of citizens, both at home and abroad, remain a top priority.
