President Mnangagwa off to Namibia for President Nandi-Ndaitwah swearing in

President ED Mnangagwa left for Namibia early this morning to attend the inauguration ceremony of Her Excellency Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah (72).

Her Excellency Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah (72) is from the ruling South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) party which won the general elections after she received 58.1% of the vote, defeating her main challenger Panduleni Itula, a candidate of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), who received 25.8% of the vote.

She made history by becoming the first female President of the country. President Nandi-Ndaitwah becomes Namibia’s fifth President.

The ceremony coincides with Namibia’s 35th Independence Day. SWAPO led the struggle for nationhood against apartheid South Africa and its policies have resonated with the aspirations of the Namibian people. The party has been in power since the country’s independence in 1990.

Zimbabwe and Namibia share fraternal relations dating back to the colonial period.
