President Mnangagwa emphasized the critical role young people play in shaping Zimbabwe’s future, urging them to uphold the values of unity, patriotism, and innovation. He highlighted the importance of youth empowerment, stating that their energy and aspirations are central to achieving Vision 2030, which aims to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy.

“The prosperity and future of our region and Africa is in your hands. We, the older generation, played our part to bring about independence, freedom, and peace. The ball is now in your court,” the President declared, challenging the youth to take ownership of national development.

The government’s commitment to decentralizing national events was evident as this year’s National Youth Day was held in Bulawayo, aligning with the Second Republic’s strategy of inclusivity and equitable development. President Mnangagwa lauded the diversity and unity showcased at the event, reinforcing the idea that Zimbabwe’s strength lies in its people’s collective identity.

A key highlight of the speech was the launch of the Zimbabwe Digital Skills Development Programme, in partnership with the United Arab Emirates. This ambitious initiative aims to train 1.5 million young Zimbabweans in software engineering, data science, and Android development, equipping them with vital digital skills to compete in the global economy. “This programme will not only enhance employability but also encourage innovation and entrepreneurship,” the President noted, underscoring the importance of technology in modern economic growth.

President Mnangagwa also commended young entrepreneurs for their contributions across various sectors, directing government institutions to foster business linkages that support youth enterprises. He urged ministries and stakeholders to enhance programmes that transition small enterprises into large-scale businesses, further cementing Zimbabwe’s commitment to youth-driven economic growth.

Furthermore, the President reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance stance on drug and substance abuse, calling for national collaboration to eliminate criminal networks responsible for distributing illicit substances. “In the ongoing war effort against drug and substance abuse, there are no sacred cows. ‘Drug Lords’ must be flushed out and supply chains destroyed,” he emphasized.

The event also showcased the success of the rebranded Youth Service in Zimbabwe Programme, which instills patriotism, discipline, and leadership among young citizens. The President commended the discipline demonstrated by the youth participants and encouraged further engagement in community development initiatives such as the national clean-up and beautification programme.

In conclusion, President Mnangagwa reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening youth policies and ensuring that young people remain at the forefront of national development. “A nation which empowers and invests in the youth is guaranteed of a prosperous future,” he declared, affirming that Zimbabwe’s development trajectory is firmly anchored in its young population.

The National Youth Day celebrations served as a powerful reminder of the vital role youth play in Zimbabwe’s development. With strong leadership, strategic policies, and collaborative efforts, the nation is poised to harness the potential of its young people to secure a brighter and more prosperous future.
