His Excellency President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has called on the media to embrace professionalism, promote national unity, and adapt to the evolving technological landscape.
Speaking during an interactive session with senior editors from state and private media at State House, His Excellency emphasized the critical role of the press in shaping public discourse and fostering national development.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by the media industry, including limited access to information and economic constraints, His Excellency reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting a vibrant and sovereign media sector. He stressed the importance of responsible journalism, urging media practitioners to ensure accuracy, balance, and objectivity in their reporting.
“A free and independent media is essential for democracy, but with that freedom comes the responsibility to inform truthfully and objectively,” he said.
The discussion also addressed Zimbabwe’s economic resilience, with His Excellency highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts to navigate economic challenges. He noted that while external pressures, such as sanctions, continue to pose difficulties, the nation remains committed to economic growth, particularly through agricultural success.
“We are rising to the challenge and doing our best to manage our economy. Fortunately, recent good rains have bolstered our agricultural sector, providing a significant boost to economic growth,” he stated.
His Excellency further emphasized the need for unity, noting that development can only be achieved when the nation works together. “We cannot achieve progress if we are divided. Let us work together, with integrity and determination, to build a Zimbabwe we can all be proud of,” he urged.
The engagement provided a platform for open dialogue between the government and media stakeholders, reinforcing the need for collaborative efforts in shaping Zimbabwe’s future.
