Murambinda Achieves Town Status: A New Era for Buhera’s Growth and Development

In a landmark decision, Murambinda has officially been elevated from a growth point to a town, according to a recent declaration by Local Government and Public Works Minister, July Moyo. This long-awaited transition represents a significant advancement for the Buhera District community, promising a host of new opportunities and resources.

Murambinda, situated in Buhera District, has been a focal point of development efforts since its establishment as a growth point in the 1980s under the Growth Point Act. With a population of around 15,000 residents, Murambinda has long been advocating for town status to better serve its expanding community and foster local development.

The upgrade from a growth point to a town is determined by a ministerial declaration, based on an assessment of several key factors including population size, infrastructure, economic activity, and developmental readiness. Despite previous applications being turned down, Minister Moyo’s recent decision marks a pivotal moment for Murambinda, acknowledging its growth and potential.

The transition comes with the appointment of the Murambinda Centre Town Board Committee, as stipulated by section 57 of the Rural District Councils Act [Chapter 29:13]. This newly established committee will play a crucial role in steering the town’s development and ensuring effective management of its resources. The committee will also receive support from the team that conducted the initial assessments, who will assist in operationalizing the Town Board Committee.

The Buhera Rural District Council will be responsible for covering the costs associated with the team’s support, including travel, subsistence, and fuel expenses, as outlined in the relevant government regulations.

This upgrade signifies more than just a change in status; it heralds a new era of development for Murambinda. The town’s residents can anticipate improved infrastructure, enhanced public services, and greater investment prospects. The transition is expected to stimulate economic growth, attract new business opportunities, and elevate the quality of life for local residents.

Minister Moyo’s decision reflects a broader commitment to regional development and the empowerment of local communities. By recognizing Murambinda’s progress and potential, the government is not only acknowledging the town’s achievements but also setting the stage for its continued growth and success.
