Murehwa Rural District Council has called upon premises owners to spruce up dilapidated buildings in line with Chapter 2 of the Model Building By-laws (1977). This call comes at a time when some buildings have become eyesores and health hazards. The local authority issued a public notice advising property owners to enhance the appearance of their buildings through repainting, repairing, or refurbishment. The law prohibits owners from neglecting buildings to the extent that they become dangerous or hazardous to occupants.
Unsightly or disfigured buildings, and those emitting unpleasant fumes, smoke, or odors, are an embarrassment to the neighborhood. The local authority directed building owners to adhere to the council by-laws. Residents were also urged to ensure all developments have an approved plan and that inspections are conducted during the construction process. All illegal operators were advised to regularize their operations or risk legal action.
