Zimbabwe Launches Key Pillars in Development Cooperation Framework

Harare, May 27, 2024 — In a significant stride towards bolstering its development initiatives, Zimbabwe has launched three critical components of its development cooperation framework: Sector Working Groups (SWGs), the Development Projects Management Information System (DEVPROMIS), and the 4th Round Monitoring Exercise for the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation.

Speaking at the launch event, the Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr. K. Mnangagwa, expressed immense satisfaction with the timing and significance of these initiatives. “As the country accelerates its re-engagement efforts under the ‘New Dispensation’, this launch could not have come at a better time. It leverages the goodwill being created and anchors Zimbabwe’s efforts to re-engage with the international community, as well as the broader development community within our borders,” Dr. Mnangagwa said.

The operationalization of DEVPROMIS is expected to strengthen inclusive partnerships, resonating with the national mantra of “Leaving no-one and no place behind”. This system is poised to play a crucial role in achieving Zimbabwe’s National Vision of becoming a “Prosperous and Empowered Upper Middle-Income Society by 2030”.

Dr. Mnangagwa extended gratitude to international partners who have supported Zimbabwe’s development framework. “Allow me to echo my utmost gratitude to the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for their support in strengthening our development cooperation framework,” he added.

Additionally, he conveyed appreciation to the African Development Bank (AfDB) for its role in the structured dialogue for the debt resolution and arrears clearance process, which is integral to the Sector Working Groups.

The Government of Zimbabwe acknowledged the invaluable cooperation of all development partners and key stakeholders in advancing the nation’s growth. Dr. Mnangagwa congratulated ministry officials and stakeholders for their collaborative efforts leading to the successful launch.

In conclusion, on behalf of the Government of Zimbabwe, Dr. Mnangagwa offered heartfelt thanks to all attendees for their participation in this special event.

“I thank you,” Dr. Mnangagwa concluded, underscoring the significance of this milestone in Zimbabwe’s development journey.
