Drawing upon UNCTAD’s expertise in trade and development, the program provided a platform for Zimbabwean statisticians to delve into the nuances of the PCI framework and its application within the national context.

As the training unfolded, participants engaged in rigorous discussions and practical exercises aimed at enhancing their statistical acumen.

Facilitators shared insights into statistical methodologies, computational techniques, and the interpretation of PCI results, empowering participants to navigate the complexities of the index with confidence.

Crucially, the program sought to foster a collaborative network of national statisticians, facilitating ongoing dialogue and knowledge exchange on PCI-related issues. By nurturing this community of practice, UNCTAD aims to cultivate a culture of data-driven decision-making and policy formulation within Zimbabwe.

The objectives of the training program, as outlined by UNCTAD, underscored the organisation’s commitment to supporting Zimbabwe’s development agenda:

I. Building Statistical Capacities: By providing targeted training, the program aims to strengthen Zimbabwe’s statistical infrastructure, enhancing the capacity of local experts to compute and interpret the PCI.

II. Sharing Expertise: UNCTAD shared its expertise in statistical methodologies and computational techniques, providing participants with valuable insights into the PCI framework.

III. Fostering Collaboration: Through interactive sessions and group activities, the program fostered collaboration among Zimbabwean statisticians, laying the groundwork for future knowledge sharing and collaboration.

IV. Supporting Evidence-Based Policy Making: By equipping participants with the tools and knowledge to utilize PCI insights in policy-making processes, UNCTAD aims to support evidence-based decision-making in Zimbabwe.

As the training drew to a close, participants departed with a renewed sense of purpose and determination to leverage the insights gained to drive Zimbabwe’s socio-economic development agenda forward.

With UNCTAD’s support, Zimbabwe is poised to harness the power of data-driven insights to address key development challenges and unlock new opportunities for growth and prosperity.
