Geo Pomona shines again at CIPMZ awards

This year’s top performing firms and individuals yesterday got recognition from the Zimbabwe Management Achievements Awards organised by the Chartered Institute of Project Managers Zimbabwe (CIPMZ) last night.

Among the reputable companies that ruled the roost was Geo Pomona Waste Management, which scooped three awards, the environmental impact project of the Year (waste management), the project team of the year, while the chief executive officer Mr Dilesh Nguwaya earned the focused CEO of the year award.

Other winners were Fossil Contracting who won the best project-oriented organisation of the year, Maka Resources won the best agriculture project of the year, and Khayah Cement scooped first runner up award of the manufacturing and value creation project of the year.

One of the country’s leading transporters, CAG Travellers Coaches was awarded best transport solution and management project with first runner up being InterAfrica followed by Trip Trans.

CIPMZ board chairperson Mr Themba Kumbula said the winners had demonstrated the qualities of nation-building by embracing President Mnangagwa’s Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo mantra.

“Those in CIPMZ believe that we should continue recognising those professionals in various fields that are participating in managing projects and ensuring that we are delivering our nation with the same agenda that the President has spelled out.”

Speaking after receiving the awards, Mr Nguwaya said the recognition is a testament to the tremendous work Geo Pomona Waste Management has accomplished within a relatively short period.

“As a company, we feel honored and we are happy with the recognition,” he said.

“It has taken a long journey and a lot of effort for us to be where we are today. Many thanks go to the team because we always work as a team.”

In a remarkable feat, Geo Pomona Waste Management has transformed the Pomona dumpsite barely two years into its operations. The recognition comes barely weeks after Geo Pomona was recognised by the Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR).

As for individuals, Fossils Contracting officials Brighton Chidzvete won the most innovative young project manager of the year and Ronald Mashura won the best chief operating officer under the road construction and rehabilitation.

Another employee Mcdonald Mhasho was a runner up of the project engineer of the year award.

Maka Resources director Innocent Sibanda won the best director of the year in the agriculture category.

NOIC Wilfred Matukeni won the project focused chief executive officer under energy and power category.

Khayah Cement official Amanda Chigariro scooped the young project professionals of the year.
