IN what was an entertaining weekend of netball action in the Premier League at Bulawayo’s White City Stadium, Platinum Queens were crowned champions for the third year in a row.

The Zvishavane based team beat Greenfuel 26-23 thanks to heroic performances from players such as Chipo Shoko, who was also named player of the month after the tournament.

Both teams had lost one match apiece, therefore the match on Sunday was a decider.

Platinum coach Simbarashe Mlambo praised his team, fans and the FC Platinum Holdings as a whole for a job well done.

“FC Platinum Holdings is a very big family and obviously we are so excited to make it three in a row, we want to thank the Almighty God, our supporters and obviously the girls who showed so much maturity and they were so composed.

“It shows how big we are as a club and we really appreciate the fact that we beat Ngezi yesterday in what was a really challenging match,” said Mlambo.

Greenfuel’s Faith Mutero was named the player of the bubble for her performances in the two-day event at the White City Cluster. She was given a cheque from Netball Zimbabwe, just like Chipo Shoko, the player of the month.

Greenfuel lost in the final to Platinum Queens for a second successive year.
