PSL condemns violence at football matches

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) has condemned violence rearing its ugly head in recent PSL matches.

The PSL condemned any form of abuse, harassment or assault of match officials.

The league’s Communication and Media Liason Officer, Kudzai Bare issued a press statement to that effect today.

“We note with concern the recent attacks on match officials during Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches”, read the statement.

The call to order by the league comes on the backdrop of the assault of the referee of the match between Caps United and Simba Bhora, Jimmy Makwanda at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Caps United supporters accused the referee of bias during the match.

This latest assault comes barely two weeks after another match official Edgar Rumeki, who was one of the assistant referees, in the match between Herentals and Dynamos was attacked by a missile and sustained a cut on his arm.

The PSL called on supporters and football administrators alike to respect decisions made by referees.

“The referees are there to apply the Laws of the game and their decisions must be respected by the clubs and all stakeholders.

We advise clubs to lodge official complaints if they are not happy with the Match Officials’ decisions”, read the statement.

Offenders face the wrath of the league and risk being banned from matches.

“The Premier Soccer League is determined to ensure that such behaviour is stamped out of the game and will be taking the necessary disciplinary action as provided in the PSL Rules and Regulations”, the statement read.

The violence at football matches is tainting our beautiful game. We urge all stakeholders to follow the rules of the game.
