DeMbare drop points again

There was little to separate Dynamos and Black Rhinos at the National Sports Stadium yesterday

Dynamos dropped another crucial two points yesterday when they were held by Black Rhinos in a goalless Castle Lager Premier Soccer League draw at National Sports Stadium.

Dynamos, who lost 1-0 to Manica Diamonds in a midweek fixture, have dropped five points which could have reduced the gap with log leaders Ngezi Platinum to two points.

Dynamos are now second on 50 points and seven points adrift of Ngezi with just four matches remaining.

The game started slowly with both teams taking time to settle.

Dynamos were without a number of regular players due to injuries and suspensions.

Captain Frank Makarati, Kelvin and Elvis Moyo, Brendon Mpofu, and Tanaka Shandirwa made the list of absentees.

Dynamos only managed one shot on target the entire first half from a harmless Issa Sadiki free kick that was calmly collected by Lenon Gonese in the 29th minute.

Dynamos goalkeeper Prince Tafiremutsa was up to the task to deny Rhinos twice when they looked dangerous with a fine collection of Valentine Katsande’s deflected shot in the 38th minute after a beautiful exchange of passes.

That was not long before Lot Chiwunga’s acrobatic scissors kick was also collected by Tafiremutsa five minutes later.

On the stroke of halftime Tafiremutsa had the upright to thank for thwarting Dematsika’s header.

In the second half Dynamos played with more intent and a Donald Mudadi shot in the 54th minute was saved by Gonese who landed awkwardly and was attended to for more than three minutes.

Dynamos kept on piling pressure as they started to control things but without any reward.

Rhinos however, gained control once again in the last 15 minutes of the game but could not trouble the Dynamos goalkeeper this time around.

Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe felt that the match was difficult for them as he bemoaned overload of games on his players since their match against Triangle.

However, Mangombe remains optimistic ahead of the remaining matches and believes they have to collect all remaining points if they are to have a chance to be champions.

“As Dynamos we are a big team and when we create chances we should utilise them and bury those chances.

“Today we created few chances but we could have buried them but it’s a game of football, they also wanted to come out of the relegation zone and it was very difficult for us.

“The margin (is not much if we can concentrate on every game and collect maximum points.

“We don’t have to lose points like this if we are to be champions.

“We need to go back to the drawing board and address on how we are going to chase the log leaders which is through winning our next assignments.

“Our squad has a lot of injuries and suspensions, it was more of a depleted side and we tried our best.

“When we say we registered 30 players it means everyone is eligible to play for Dynamos and they have to prove themselves.

“Of late we have been in a lot of games since the game against Triangle, CAPS, Manica Diamonds, today and then midweek again.

“So some of these things it’s because of load, you see the players not playing the way we want, their legs were a bit heavy and even my two wingers failed to run.”

Chaminuka also lamented on the failure of his boys to utilise their chances as he felt it was two points lost than a point gained.

“It’s two points lost and you fail to understand what is happening as we will be failing to convert our chances and maybe because it’s football,” he said.
