Warriors friendly match against Botswana called off

Warriors Interim Coach Baltemar Brito

The Zimbabwe Warriors friendly match against the Zebras of Botswana has been called off under unclear circumstances.

The warriors were set to host their neighbours in a friendly match this Saturday at the National Sports Stadium as part of preparations for the 2026 world cup qualifiers.

The Zimbabwe Football Association advised stakeholders in a statement.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) advises all football stakeholders that our planned international friendly match against Botswana has been cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control.

The association sincerely regrets all inconveniences that this unfortunate development has caused to all our stakeholders”, read the statement issued today.

Reports indicate that the football association announced the fixture prematurely before getting the nod from their counterparts who play Eswatini on Monday.

Despite the setback, the warriors troops will remain in camp, the nation was advised.

“The training camp for the Warriors will still go ahead until the end of the international break.

This will give the technical team more time to assess their options ahead of crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Nigeria in November”, read the statement.

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) had already called up Week 27 fixtures which were scheduled to be played this weekend.

The 2026 World Cup qualifiers are scheduled to kickstart next month.

24 players are in the training camp.
