A 23-year-old Zimbabwean woman, Ruth Jari miraculously survived a crocodile attack , after being rescued from the jaws of a crocodile in Dora River Chaona ward in Muzarabani.
She was watering their family garden and as she approached to fetch some water, the reptile leaped up and caught her hand and begun to drown her into the river. This was a terrible and unexpected dangerous situation as only her legs could be seen above the water.
Scores of people at the river ran away fearing for their lives leaving the Ruth battling with the crocodile alone.
As the villagers scattered running with their dear lives, one man nearby Mr Joseph Mapanda gathered enough courage to rescue Ruth. He engaged in a tug of war with the reptile. Mr Mapanda did not lose his composure and showed immense bravery by diving on top of the crocodile. He wrestled until the alligator let go. The crocodile did not give up easily and continued to hold onto Ruth’s leg.
The animal then retreated to its safe place. Ruth sustained injuries in the attack, eventually losing her hand.
Mr Mapanda has gained widespread admiration from his peers for his bravery in rescuing Ruth from the jaws of the crocodile.
Mr Mapanda escaped with minor injuries and talking to Positive Eye News this afternoon he was visibly in pain for he got struck by the alligator’s tail. The Hero rushed to St Albert Mission Hospital with the victim and he catered for some of the payments needed at the hospital.
Medical professionals who attended to Ruth explained that she was seriously injured and was losing a lot of blood.
Everyone who hears this story is giving a lot of credit and gratitude to the hero of the day, Mr Mapanda who risked his life and rescued Ruth. Ruth’s mother and family gave an emotional thanks to him for the love that he showed.
Mr Mapanda explained that his actions were not just about bravery but he was compelled by love.
