

HARARE — Residents have been urged to take immediate precautions as heavy thunderstorms and possible flash flooding are expected across Harare and surrounding areas between 1pm and 8pm today, 6 October.
The warning, attributed to the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) and the City of Harare, places several low-lying and flood-prone areas at heightened risk.
🚨 EMERGENCY SAFETY GUIDANCE
Residents are urged to:
- STAY INDOORS between 1pm and 8pm where possible.
- DO NOT CROSS flooded rivers, bridges, streams or roads, even if the water appears shallow.
- Move valuables, important documents and medication to higher ground.
- Unplug electrical appliances if it is safe to do so and avoid contact with electrical equipment in wet areas.
- Keep children away from drains, rivers and floodwater, particularly around the Marimba and Mukuvisi waterways.
- If water begins entering your home, move immediately to higher ground and alert neighbours who are in a safer location.
- Do not attempt to drive or walk through fast-moving floodwater.
📍 AREAS AT HIGHER RISK
Areas identified as being at higher risk include Budiriro Paddocks, Kuwadzana Paddocks, Mbare, Highfield, Glen Norah, Glen View, Warren Park D, Waterfalls/Hopley, Chitungwiza and Borrowdale vleis.
Residents in these areas are encouraged to take precautions before the storms intensify rather than waiting for flooding to begin.
