A 34-year-old man has been arrested in Featherstone on allegations of stock theft following a high-speed chase that ended after his vehicle struck and killed a calf.
Police said the incident occurred on 13 September 2026 when officers signalled a Toyota Probox to stop near Wadyiwa Wamira Shops along the Harare-Masvingo Road in Featherstone.
The driver, identified as Filton Kachavi (34), allegedly failed to comply and sped off, prompting police to give chase.
During the pursuit, the suspect turned onto Charter Road. The chase came to an abrupt end when the vehicle hit a calf, which died on the spot, bringing the car to a halt.
Police managed to apprehend Kachavi at the scene.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered eight 50-kilogramme bags containing deboned beef.
Subsequent investigations established that the meat had been stolen from two complainants in Mvuma.
The suspect is expected to appear in court facing stock theft charges, while police say investigations are continuing.
Police have reiterated their warning to motorists to comply with lawful orders to stop, and have urged members of the public to report stock theft cases which continue to affect farmers in the region.
