Customer Confidence Drives First Capital Bank to Strong H1 2026 Results as Deposits Hit US$249 Million

HARARE, Zimbabwe — 28 August 2026

First Capital Bank Zimbabwe has reported a strong financial performance for the six months ended 30 June 2026, underpinned by growing customer confidence that has expanded the Bank’s capacity to finance businesses and support productive economic activity.

Customer deposits rose by 24% to US$249 million, providing a stronger funding base that enabled the Bank to grow loans and advances by 28% to US$165 million. Profit after tax climbed 26% year-on-year to US$16.7 million.

The results signal continued progress across First Capital Bank’s core business and reflect deepening relationships with clients in key sectors of the economy.

First Capital Bank Chief Executive Officer, Tapera Mushoriwa, said deposit growth is ultimately about impact.

“For us, deposit growth is ultimately about what it enables us to do. When more customers choose to place their money with First Capital Bank, it increases our capacity to put that money back to work by supporting businesses, facilitating trade and financing productive activity,” Mushoriwa said.

During H1 2026, the Bank deployed funding across Agriculture, Mining and the Services sectors, providing working capital, trade finance, lending and transaction banking solutions. Deposit performance was attributed to both new customer acquisition and deeper engagement with existing clients in those sectors.

“Our clients want a banking partner that understands their business, can respond when opportunities arise and has the capacity to support their ambitions. For us, that is what it means to be The Bank for Doing Business,” Mushoriwa added.

Chief Financial Officer Nuno Simoes said the H1 results reflect a deliberate focus on sustainable balance-sheet growth and disciplined capital deployment.

“The growth in our deposit base has strengthened our funding position and gives us greater capacity to support lending while maintaining the financial discipline required for sustainable growth,” Simoes said.
“As we move into the second half, our focus remains on growing quality deposits, deploying capital responsibly and maintaining a strong and resilient balance sheet.”

Beyond the balance sheet, First Capital Bank continued investing in channels that make it easier for customers to do business. Customer adoption of digital and self-service banking remained strong, with ATM usage up 28% during the period. This was supported by continued investment in the Bank’s branch network.

The Bank also deepened client relationships through non-traditional platforms. Its inaugural First Capital Bank Padel Cup brought together clients and business leaders in an informal networking environment — a reflection of the Bank’s view that the next business opportunity often begins with a conversation.

First Capital Bank said its performance has enabled continued investment in communities across Zimbabwe, with support directed toward education, youth development, sport and access to clean water.

Looking ahead to the second half of 2026, the Bank’s priorities include further deposit mobilisation, responsible growth in lending, increased transaction volumes and deeper customer relationships.

“There is more business to be done. We want to attract more deposits, put more of that funding to productive use and continue building relationships that help our customers move their businesses forward,” Mushoriwa said.
