Highlanders FC Mourns Six Supporters Killed in Road Accident

Highlanders Football Club is in mourning again after six supporters died in a road traffic accident last Sunday, 23 August 2026.

In a statement, the club said the supporters were travelling back to Filabusi after watching Highlanders’ 2 – 0 win in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against Herentals FC at Barbourfields Stadium when the accident occurred about 15km from Filabusi.

“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the President, Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Secretariat, Technical Team, players, members and supporters of Highlanders Football Club announce the tragic passing of six of our beloved supporters,” the club said.

The tragedy comes just a month after the club lost chairman Kenneth Mhlophe, vice-chairman Sifiso Siziba and treasurer Nkani Khoza in a separate road accident on 23 July 2026.

Highlanders extended condolences to the bereaved families, saying the departed “travelled in the true spirit of Highlanders, with love, loyalty and pride for the Club. They were part of our 100-year family, and their absence will be deeply felt on the terraces of Barbourfields Stadium.”

The club also wished a speedy recovery to the injured. Four supporters are admitted at Filabusi Hospital while one is in critical condition at UBH in Bulawayo.

Highlanders thanked the ZRP, emergency services, Filabusi Hospital, UBH and all stakeholders who responded swiftly.

“Highlanders Football Club is your family. We are with you. May the souls of our departed supporters rest in eternal peace. Highlanders Football Club is in mourning again after six supporters died in a road traffic accident last Sunday, 23 August 2026.
