Otillia Makomo – Harare — His Excellency President Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa has challenged Zimbabweans to build a strong industrial base as the surest path to sustainable prosperity and global competitiveness.
Addressing delegates at the Zimbabwe Industrialisation Conference and Expo 2026, the President said history has proven that nations that transform their resources into high-value products are the ones that create jobs, stimulate innovation, and secure lasting development.
“History teaches us that sustainable prosperity is attained through building a strong industrial base and capabilities to transform resources into high-value products,” President Mnangagwa said.
“Ultimately, every society has a duty to generate employment, stimulate innovation, increase production and productivity to effectively compete at the global market.”
The President said Zimbabwe is well positioned to achieve this ambition. He cited the *shared national Vision 2030, the country’s rich natural resource endowments, strategic geographic position, and resilient infrastructure as favourable variables for industrial growth.
He added that Zimbabwe’s skilled and entrepreneurial citizens, strong partnerships, and efficient enterprises provide the “requisite ingredients necessary” to drive the industrialisation agenda forward.
President Mnangagwa emphasized that industrialisation must be inclusive and anchored on value addition across key sectors including agriculture, mining, manufacturing, and energy. This, he said, will ensure that wealth created benefits communities and secures jobs for present and future generations.
The Zimbabwe Industrialisation Conference and Expo 2026 brings together government, private sector, academia, and development partners to map strategies for boosting local production, attracting investment, and positioning Zimbabwe as a competitive player in regional and global markets.
