Zimbabwe to Lay National Hero Cde Victor Matemadanda to Rest at Heroes Acre Friday

HARARE – Zimbabwe will accord national hero status to the late Ambassador Cde Victor Matemadanda, with burial set for Friday, 26 June 2026, at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.

The state funeral will celebrate Cde Matemadanda’s service to the nation, with citizens invited to attend and pay their final respects. To facilitate attendance, transport will be provided from designated pickup points across Harare Province. The announcement was made by Cde Voyage Dambuza, ZANU PF Harare Province Political Commissar, who called on the public to gather in unity as the country honours one of its distinguished sons.

The burial is being held under the party’s banner of Unity, Peace and Development. The National Heroes Acre, the country’s revered shrine for those who shaped Zimbabwe’s liberation and post-independence path, will serve as the final resting place. The site, marked by the iconic statue of the Unknown Soldier, stands as a symbol of national sacrifice and remembrance.
