Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Moves to Remove 6,284 Deceased Voters From Roll

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has initiated a process to delete more than 6,000 names from the national voters roll after voter registration officials determined the individuals are deceased.

In a notice published in the Government Gazette on 1 May 2026, the Commission stated that the action is being taken under Section 33(4) read together with Section 27(1) of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13]. The names appear in the First Schedule of the notice and are linked to specific constituencies, wards, and polling stations across the country.

The Commission said the removals are part of regular maintenance of the voters roll to ensure it remains accurate and free of deceased entries ahead of future elections. A total of 6,284 individuals have been identified for deletion.

Affected voters who are still alive have a seven-day window from the date of publication to lodge an objection. Objections must be submitted using the prescribed form in the Second Schedule and can be filed at the Commission’s headquarters at Mahachi Quantum, 1 Nelson Mandela Avenue, Harare, or at provincial offices nationwide.

If no appeal is received within the stipulated period, the names will be formally removed from the roll. The periodic clean-up is a standard procedure aimed at preserving the integrity of the electoral register before any polling exercise.
