Majuru – Youths from across the area gathered in large numbers to participate in various sporting disciplines at the Honourable Emily Jesaya Sports Tournament, an initiative aimed at discouraging drug and substance abuse.
The tournament brought together young people through sport, with disciplines such as netball and soccer taking center stage. The atmosphere was vibrant, with music, including popular tracks like Toita Madiro, energizing players and boosting morale throughout the event.
The initiative was widely praised by participants, who described it as a timely intervention in addressing the growing challenge of drug and substance abuse among youths in Goromonzi. Many expressed appreciation for Honourable Minister Emily Jesaya’s efforts, noting that the tournament is reaching different communities and creating positive engagement platforms.
“This tournament is helping us stay focused and away from drugs. It gives us something meaningful to do,” one participant said.
Teams also acknowledged the opportunity to showcase their talent. Gift’s Academy Soccer Team commended the Honourable Minister for recognizing and including them in the tournament, highlighting the importance of such platforms in nurturing young talent.
The tournament stands as a testament to the role of sport in promoting discipline, unity, and social responsibility among youths, while reinforcing the message of living a drug-free life.
