Rushinga – Communities in Mashonaland Central have expressed strong support for the proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, with stakeholders from various sectors endorsing the Bill during a consultative meeting held in Mambo Rusambo area.
The engagement, conducted as part of nationwide public hearings, brought together members of the Joint Parliamentary Committee, including Senator Omega Hungwe, Honourable Nyasha Chikwinya, Honourable Taedzwa, Honourable Tsitsi Taomera, and Honourable Trymore Kanopula, who are facilitating citizen input on the proposed legislative changes.
The Bill, which contains 22 clauses, continues to draw interest across communities, with Rushinga emerging as one of the areas where citizens have openly articulated their positions on its potential impact on governance and development.
Various local groups voiced their endorsement of the Bill, highlighting its perceived benefits to national stability and socio-economic progress. The Rushinga Disability Association expressed full support, noting that the proposed amendments align with their expectations for inclusive governance and improved representation.
Farmers in the district also backed the Bill, emphasising the importance of legislative frameworks that support agricultural productivity and rural development. Contributions from community members further pointed to the role of land and natural resources as critical drivers of development, underscoring the need for policies that strengthen their management and utilisation.
Some residents highlighted that the Bill could contribute to maintaining peace and boosting investor confidence, linking constitutional stability to economic growth and national development. Others supported the adoption of indirect voting mechanisms, arguing that such an approach could reduce the financial burden associated with electoral processes.
Traditional leaders also weighed in, with one community representative noting that the Bill presents benefits for Chiefs and the broader traditional leadership structure in Rushinga. War veterans in the district echoed similar sentiments, expressing their collective support for the proposed amendments.
The Rushinga consultations reflect a broader national process aimed at gathering citizen perspectives on Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, with feedback expected to inform deliberations in Parliament. As the process continues, communities across the country remain actively engaged in shaping the legislative direction of the nation.
