Hwedza South Constituency, Zimbabwe — Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Tino Machakaire, has commended local farmers for their dedication and productivity, as Zimbabwe continues to register gains under climate-smart agricultural programmes such as Pfumvudza.
Speaking during a field day held at Goto Homestead in Hwedza South, Hon. Minister Machakaire, who is also the Member of Parliament for the constituency, praised farmers for embracing modern farming techniques that are contributing to improved yields and national food security. The event was attended by Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Apollonia Munzverengwi, represented by Hon. Ndudzo as the Guest of Honour.
The ministers toured fields belonging to Mr and Mrs Salome, where successful Pfumvudza plots demonstrated the impact of conservation agriculture in enhancing productivity despite climate challenges.
Hon. Minister Machakaire highlighted the importance of partnerships in agriculture, commending Valley Seeds for supporting farmers with inputs and technical expertise. He further acknowledged the role of Government under the leadership of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde. Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, in driving agricultural transformation through targeted support programmes.
“The hard work and dedication of our farmers is truly commendable. We are proud to have such committed individuals driving our agricultural sector forward,” he said.
The field day comes at a time when Zimbabwe is intensifying efforts to build a resilient agricultural sector anchored on productivity, innovation, and climate adaptation. Pfumvudza, which promotes efficient land use and conservation farming methods, has become a cornerstone of the country’s food security strategy.
Agricultural experts note that such field days are critical in knowledge sharing, peer learning, and reinforcing best practices among farmers, particularly in rural communities where agriculture remains a primary source of livelihood.
The event in Hwedza underscores the growing alignment between government policy, private sector support, and community participation in strengthening Zimbabwe’s agricultural base, positioning farmers at the centre of national development and economic recovery.
