Harare, Zimbabwe – The passing of National Hero, Cde Cosmas Chiringa, has prompted not only solemn reflection but also a renewed focus on the importance of ideological discipline and defending national interests. The farewell ceremony, held at the ZANU-PF Harare Provincial Headquarters, brought together senior government officials, party dignitaries, and war veterans, underlining the enduring value of patriotic service.
Cde Chiringa, who passed away on March 9, 2026, at the age of 67, was celebrated not just for his contributions to the liberation struggle, but also for his lifelong commitment to the principles of national development and party supremacy. Harare Province Chairman, Cde Godwillis Masimirembwa, emphasized the late hero’s embodiment of the Vision 2030 agenda, noting his dedication to empowering residents and strengthening ZANU-PF structures.
“Cde Chiringa worked tirelessly to ensure that the people of Harare and the party were empowered,” Cde Masimirembwa said, highlighting the centrality of ideological consistency in achieving development goals. The message reflects the broader expectation that national heroes serve as models for political discipline and commitment to national priorities.
Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province, Cde Tavengwa, recalled Cde Chiringa’s early involvement in the liberation struggle from the age of 16, describing him as a steadfast defender of national interests. “We gather today to bid farewell to a gallant son of the soil, aka Steward Dzika, his liberation war name,” Cde Tavengwa said. “His legacy reinforces the principle that defending our sovereignty and ideological foundations is essential to nation-building.”
Permanent Secretary for Harare Metropolitan Province, Engineer Muguti, further highlighted Cde Chiringa’s alignment with government initiatives, including Amendment Bill Number 3, noting that the late hero consistently prioritized national cohesion, party objectives, and governance frameworks that protect Zimbabwe’s interests.
The ceremony also underscored the critical role of ideological education in sustaining the country’s development trajectory. The presence of Cde Mada, Principal Director of Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology, alongside other party stalwarts such as Cde Chirau, Cde Hungwe, Cde Voyage Dambuza, and Cde Andy Mhlanga, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to nurturing disciplined cadres capable of defending Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and socio-economic achievements.
Cde Chiringa’s burial, scheduled for March 23, 2026, at the National Heroes Acre in Harare, will provide an opportunity to consolidate lessons from his life. His legacy serves as a reminder that patriotism, ideological fidelity, and unwavering commitment to national interests are critical pillars for Zimbabwe’s continued growth and stability.
As the nation bids farewell to one of its finest sons, the message is clear: strengthening party ideology, safeguarding national sovereignty, and fostering disciplined leadership remain central to Zimbabwe’s path toward Vision 2030.
