ZANU-PF Announces New Central Committee Members, Welcomes Fresh Leadership

HARARE, Zimbabwe — The ruling ZANU PF party has confirmed the appointment of new members to its influential Central Committee, signalling a push to broaden its leadership base with younger business figures, party spokesperson Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa said in a statement.

Mutsvangwa announced that Paul Tungwarara, a prominent businessman and presidential adviser, has been accepted as a member of the ZANU PF Central Committee following his nomination by Manicaland Province and approval at a recent party session.

He also confirmed the selection of another member put forward by Harare Province, whose appointment to the Central Committee has likewise been ratified. Mutsvangwa described both appointments as an “injection of blood” into the party’s leadership, emphasising the inclusion of young and business-oriented figures.

In his remarks, Mutsvangwa said the expanded leadership lineup is part of efforts to modernise the party’s approach to national economic challenges, including harnessing ideas on wealth creation, artificial intelligence, robotics and other components of what he described as the “quantum economy.”

“ZANU PF’s prominence with the Zimbabwean people for the past six decades has been sustained by its openness to new ideas,” he said, adding that the party aims to remain relevant and inclusive “as a mass party” with broad participation.

The Central Committee is one of ZANU PF’s top decision-making bodies outside of the party congress and plays a key role in shaping policy and strategic direction for the party.

Analysts note that the inclusion of business leaders and younger figures into senior party structures could reflect an ongoing effort by ZANU PF to balance internal party dynamics ahead of future political contests.
