The handover ceremony was attended by senior Government officials, including the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Anxious Jongwe Masuka, and Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Willard Manungo, reflecting high-level coordination in the implementation of the programme.

Speaking on the development, officials highlighted that the facility will play a critical role in addressing mechanisation gaps, particularly among smallholder farmers who form the backbone of Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector. The intervention is also expected to reduce production costs, improve yields and strengthen resilience against climate-related challenges.

The programme aligns with Zimbabwe’s broader agricultural modernisation agenda, which focuses on boosting output, ensuring national food self-sufficiency and enhancing rural livelihoods. It also complements ongoing Government initiatives aimed at increasing productivity and building a more resilient and sustainable agricultural system.

Beyond its immediate impact, the support underscores the strong bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and Japan, with agriculture remaining a central pillar of cooperation. Japan has consistently partnered Zimbabwe through technical assistance, infrastructure development and capacity-building programmes, contributing to long-term sectoral growth.

The latest intervention is anticipated to accelerate progress towards national development goals, positioning agriculture as a cornerstone in Zimbabwe’s journey towards economic stability and Vision 2030.
