Harare – Japan has extended agricultural support to Zimbabwe through a US$2.6 million facility aimed at enhancing productivity, strengthening food security and promoting sustainable growth within the sector.
The assistance, provided by the Government of Japan, comes at a time when Zimbabwe continues to prioritise agricultural transformation as a key driver of economic development. The equipment is expected to improve mechanisation, increase efficiency and support farmers in scaling up production across key value chains.

Book NowThe handover ceremony was attended by senior Government officials, including the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Anxious Jongwe Masuka, and Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Willard Manungo, reflecting high-level coordination in the implementation of the programme.
Speaking on the development, officials highlighted that the facility will play a critical role in addressing mechanisation gaps, particularly among smallholder farmers who form the backbone of Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector. The intervention is also expected to reduce production costs, improve yields and strengthen resilience against climate-related challenges.
The programme aligns with Zimbabwe’s broader agricultural modernisation agenda, which focuses on boosting output, ensuring national food self-sufficiency and enhancing rural livelihoods. It also complements ongoing Government initiatives aimed at increasing productivity and building a more resilient and sustainable agricultural system.
