The Government of Zimbabwe, in partnership with UNICEF, has launched the One Laptop, One IPad per Pupil initiative aimed at reducing the digital divide and expanding access to digital learning in disadvantaged schools.
The programme was officially launched by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Torerayi Moyo, who said the initiative seeks to ensure equitable access to digital tools for learners regardless of their geographical location or socio-economic background.
Under the programme, pupils will receive laptops and iPads to support teaching and learning, as part of broader efforts to modernise the education system and promote inclusivity through technology. A consignment of laptops, tablets and projectors has already been handed over to schools to strengthen digital teaching capacity and enhance classroom learning. The Ministry said the equipment will help prepare learners for a technology-driven global environment.
The initiative forms part of Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 agenda, which prioritises human capital development, innovation and equal opportunity. Government officials said the programme complements ongoing education reforms aimed at building a skilled and digitally literate generation.
The Ministry acknowledged UNICEF and its partners for supporting the initiative, describing the collaboration as critical to advancing national development goals and strengthening the role of education in economic transformation.
The Government reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging technology to improve learning outcomes and position education as a cornerstone of national development.
