The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has made a significant announcement, increasing the winner’s prize money for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 to a whopping $10 million, 43% up from $7 million previously. This move is aimed at elevating the continent’s premier football competition and boosting its global profile.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe revealed the increase during an executive committee meeting in Morocco, stating,
“We have established what is truly the most exciting new framework for football on the continent.”
The tournament is scheduled to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, in Morocco.
This prize money hike is part of CAF’s broader strategy to enhance the stature, intensity, and financial appeal of African football. Motsepe also hinted at significant increases in prize money for the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, although specific figures were not disclosed .
