Harare has kicked off its provincial arm of the national resource mobilisation campaign to combat drug and substance abuse, as government intensifies efforts to protect Zimbabwe’s youth.
At a city hotel event, Information Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere reiterated the public’s role in ending the crisis, invoking the national maxim, “Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo”, a nation built by its own people. This launch follows President Mnangagwa’s July State House initiative, now being decentralised to provinces, districts, and wards.
The National Drug and Substance Abuse Plan (2024–2030) rests on seven key pillars, including demand and supply reduction, community reintegration, and resource mobilisation. The drive aims to mobilise funding for infrastructure, outreach, and rehabilitation efforts before the end of October 2025.
Defense Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri chairs the Ministerial Taskforce overseeing the interventions, which have been devolved through provincial, district, and ward structures. Harare’s Provincial Affairs Minister, Charles Tawengwa, called on all citizens to participate: “Everyone should be a team player.”
A notable pledge came from Premier Soccer League side Scortland FC, which committed US$52 000 toward the campaign, a powerful blend of community leadership and civic responsibility.
