Parliament of Zimbabwe, in partnership with the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS), will host the second provincial phase of the national campaign on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) at Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo on 1 August 2025. The event, which runs from 09:00 to 13:00, aims to confront rising cases of child abuse, rape, and teenage pregnancies, particularly in rural and peri-urban communities.
This outreach is part of the Swedish-funded SRHR, HIV and AIDS Governance Project implemented in collaboration with the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF). Following a successful launch in Mashonaland Central, the campaign now moves to Masvingo province, a region where gender-based violence and youth vulnerability remain a pressing concern.
At its core, the initiative seeks to raise awareness, empower survivors, and enhance public understanding of reproductive rights. It also reflects Parliament’s broader commitment to protecting vulnerable populations through active legislative oversight and direct community engagement. The campaign’s grassroots approach has drawn praise for bridging the gap between policy and practice, and ensuring that laws translate into real protection for citizens.
Organisers say the event will bring together Members of Parliament, government agencies, traditional leaders, civil society organisations, educators, and health professionals to collectively respond to the crisis. The initiative also emphasises the need for improved service delivery, coordination, and accountability in addressing SRHR challenges.
As the Masvingo campaign gathers momentum, the Parliament of Zimbabwe continues to position itself not only as a law-making body, but as a people-centred institution that responds decisively to the social realities affecting women, youth, and children.
