Saviour Kasukuwere has been banned from contesting in the 2023 harmonised elections.
Kasukuwere lodged his papers with the nomination court last month to contest as a Presidential candidate.
After successfully lodging his papers, Lovedale Mangwana approached the High Court seeking to have Kasukuwere’s name deleted from the ballot citing that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) had infringed the law by allowing someone who had been out of the country for more than eighteen months to contest in the elections. His stay out of the country automatically removed him from being a registred voter.
The High Court nullified Kasukuwere’s nomination and directed ZEC to remove him from the list of Presidential Aspirants.
Kasukuwere appealed the decision of the High Court.
Supreme Court Judges, Justice Antonia Guvava sitting with Justice Chinembiri Bhunu and Justice Felistas Chatukuta upheld the decision of the lower court.
“After carefully listening to the submissions yesterday, we are of the firm view that the appeal lacks merit.
“The appeal is hereby dismissed with no order as to costs.” Said Justice Guvava reading the operative part of the court judgment.
Reasons for the judgement to follow, ruled the court.
The judgement seals Kasukuwere’s fate as he will no longer be a contestant in the elections.
